Beach House

POSTED: October 3rd 2013

On the hunt for a truly beach-inspired shop with classic, resourceful elements, Sally Dwyer opened her own retail retreat on Aquidneck Island in 1997. At the Beach House Newport, formerly known as Watercolours, it’s always a day at the Beach. Products Available at Beach House Newport An interior designer, Dwyer was inspired greatly by the ocean and the soothing and tranquil respite it offers. By buying pieces that she herself loves, and those that work well together, Dwyer has created quite a storefront for the sea-minded. “We’re very specific in our focus,”she says. “We’re coastal, but not ‘trendy’coastal.”Enter classic: a timeless, traditional look that will endure Click here to read more.

In with the Old; In with the New

POSTED: October 3rd 2013

From the outside, the 1849 antique farmhouse that is Cory Farms Past & Presents is the epitome of New England quaint and cozy. Between the main house with its patio and side deck, three barns, chicken coop, outhouse and two open acres, it’s more of a vintage compound, really, with original eaves and trim, pristine hardwood floors and all the nooks and crannies one might find in a private home. And although it has a kitchen with a farmer’s sink and buttercup cabinets, and “formal” dining and living spaces and entryway, this “home” is anything but. Second Time Around

POSTED: October 3rd 2013

It’s usually the location or the view that sells a house on Cape Cod.  But in the case of this classic summer cottage in Chatham, the house’s decor sold the new homeowners. Although the house has both a great location and stellar views, the owners fell in love with the Cape-inspired colors, fabrics and thoughtful touches that truly make a house a home. After the sellers moved out—emptying the house of its contents—the new owners wanted to replicate the nautical look and feel with which they fell in love. And what better way to capture the same desired effect than hire the original interior designer? A Touch of Glam

POSTED: October 3rd 2013

Decorating this brand-new, beachside summer home near a popular bike path posed a challenge for interior designer and Pastiche of Cape Cod owner Irina MacPhee:  How to accommodate the New York family’s relaxed, away-from-the-city lifestyle while incorporating what Irina calls “a touch of glam” that would remind them of home. Four children and a large extended family that visits often dictated that the house be user-friendly, yet the wife, in Irina’s words, is “a fleur-de-lis type” with an appreciation for sumptuous fabrics and traditional patterns. All that the husband really wanted was a comfortable chair . . . not so easy for a man of his stature. Photography by Dan Cutro Click here to read more.
